FULTON, NY – Menter Ambulance is inaugurating a new class of 12 trainees for the sixth EMT Academy held at the Menter Ambulance Training Center in Fulton, New York, beginning September 12, 2022 with a NYS practical exam scheduled for November 16, 2022.
For two years, Menter Ambulance, in conjunction with the Oswego County Office of Emergency Management/Emergency Medical Services, trained community members to the NYS Emergency Medical Technician level. Normally, the cost of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course can cost the trainee between $800 and $1,200 out of pocket, but Menter Ambulance has created an EMT Academy to help lower those costs while increasing the EMS provider labor to meet the needs of the local. community.
Trainees learn the role of an EMT, including but not limited to basic anatomy and physiology, bleeding control, splinting techniques, administering medication, obtaining vital signs, emergency driving techniques, and more. Classroom instruction takes place at the Menter Training Center, with field training taking place on a Menter ambulance under the direction of a Field Training Officer who reinforces the concepts taught in the classroom.
Trainees selected for the rigorous program become full-time employees of Menter Ambulance from day one of training, with a comprehensive industry-leading benefits package offered to all trainees, including insurance health, dental, vision and life, paid time off, a 401K Plan with 4% employer matching, and a gym reimbursement program, among others.
