The authorities of Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences (EkoUNIMED), Ijanikin, Lagos have appointed Dr. Abayomi Finnih as the pioneer Chancellor of the first private specialized university of medical and health sciences in the country.
Dr. Finnih, a graduate of the University of Ibadan Medical School and a renowned Obstetrician and Gynecologist, is a retired Medical Director in Lagos State.
The University’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Olanipekun Kamal Alausa, during his installation during the university’s fourth enrollment, said that Dr. Finnih had the experience, skills and integrity required of a reputable medical college chancellor.
In addition, the founder and owner of the university, Dr. Hammed Ayodele Ibraheem, expressed his confidence that Dr. Finnih, the pioneer chancellor, whom he described as an outstanding professional gynecologist, would bring his wealth of experience and his developmental medical expertise. of the University.
He however reiterated that the establishment of the university is first and foremost to give back to society what it needed to contribute, and to bridge the gap and frustration of young Nigerians, who although qualified, could not be admitted to universities. pursuing their dream of medical education due to limited admissions places in the system.
So, the owner has promised to build a state-of-the-art medical research hospital complex, as well as bringing home Nigerians from the diaspora to join the crusades for quality medical education and healthcare delivery systems. medical.
“Because of the founder’s international connections, we will nominate medical experts to join the project, especially from the United States and some European countries where I have multiple affiliations,” he said, adding that he had also carefully selected Americans and Nigerians as members. of the University’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor AB Ejiwunmi, while advising new entrants to take their studies seriously, said the main thing is that they are prepared and prepared to take full advantage of the opportunities ahead and succeed .

EkoUNIMED, which admitted its first batch of students on December 13, 2018 and received its business license on April 15, 2021, and obtained full accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in June 2021 for all courses proposed, along with approval for the first professional examination by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) on October 20, 2021.
The university, according to the Vice-Chancellor, offered the following academic programs in fields related to medicine and health sciences: Medicine and Surgery, Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Dentistry and Nursing, such as approved by relevant professional bodies.
