First movements of the transfer window in Ligue 2
Swindon Town’s season is over and clubs across the country have turned their attention to the transfer market, here’s what’s happened already.
Having only completed their season five days ago, Swindon are yet to release their own shortlist and due to the legacy of their transfer embargo at present, Town have just seven players under contract for next season.
Harry McKirdy, Ellis Iandolo, Lewis Ward, Ben Gladwin, Harry Parsons, George Cowmeadow and Harrison Minturn are the only players under contract for the next term to have signed extensions during the season.
It’s going to make for a busy summer for Ben Chorley and Ben Garner as they try to hold on to the core of the squad that have reached the League Two play-offs, with just three starters for the final game at Port Vale under contract.
But with the extra time most teams have since their season ended on May 7, 18 of the teams confirmed in Ligue 2 next season have made decisions about their players and released their shortlists.
A few teams have moved quickly to bring in available talent, with Stevenage signing three players on Monday as Steve Evans looks to rebuild the squad that once again narrowly survived, with 15 players leaving Lamex Stadium.
Michael Bostwick, 34, went on permanent loan from Burton, Carl Piergianni, 28, arrived from relegated Oldham, and goalkeeper Aaron Chapman, 31, arrived from Steve Evans’ former club Gillingham.
Bradford City have also been busy having already added four players and let six leave, as Mark Hughes prepares for his first EFL transfer window with hopes of finally getting the Bantams out of League Two.
Jamie Walker, 28, transferred his loan from Hearts to a permanent stay in Yorkshire, along with Harry Lewis, 24, from Southampton, 24-year-old defender Matthew Platt from Barrow, and they bought Jake Young, 20 , of League 2 champions Forest Green for an undisclosed fee.
Newly relegated Crewe Alexandra added former Swindon midfielder Connor Thomas, 28, after his release from Cheltenham Town and Kelvin Mellor, 31, left League One Morecambe to join the Staffordshire club.
Carlisle United added midfielder Owen Moxon, 24, from Annan Athletic, Harrison Biggins, 26, joined Doncaster Rovers from Fleetwood Town, and goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell, 33, moved to Rochdale after been let go by Bradford.
