IADSR Hosts Workshop on TMD, Splint Therapy
LAHORE: A two-day workshop on “Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and Splint Therapy” was recently held at the Institute of Advanced Dental Science and Research (IADSR). The workshop is part of the IADSR 9th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD) program.
Dr. Waleed Toosy, Assistant Professor, Avicenna Dental College, Lahore facilitated the workshop. The first session included occlusion, its basic introduction and the centric relationship between the maxillary and mandibular teeth. Next, occlusal adjustments were taught by the facilitator as it is a modality to improve the overall tooth model.
Attendees also learned about canine advice and how things can go wrong if a practitioner does not have canine advice. The host also discussed the anatomy of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), articular disc of the temporomandibular joint, TMJ disorders and possible causes of the disorders. Participants also learned about the clinical examination of muscles and the clinical examination of disease.
Dr. Waleed demonstrated the making of the splint, then was carried out by the participants. The facilitator resolved the issues raised during the proceedings, and he also resolved the questions raised by the participants on the subject. The two-day workshop concluded with the achievement of the desired learning objectives.
