AI software solutions company Pearl has just received approval to introduce its Second Opinion® AI solution to the Australian and New Zealand dental markets. The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration and New Zealand Medical Devices Safety Authority clearances follow the European Second Opinion® CE mark received earlier this year for use as an assistive tool in dental radiology. The approvals signal a growing recognition of the usefulness of AI in clinical dentistry.

Pearl developed Second Opinion® to assist dentists in their assessment of patient x-rays. The tool applies computer x-ray vision to highlight potential areas of interest, providing dentists with a second pair of eyes when reading x-rays, both to help dentists ensure care decisions to patients are built on the strongest possible foundation and to give dentists a new level of confidence in communicating results to patients.

“Patients in Australia and New Zealand will soon have the opportunity to experience AI at dental appointments and have the confidence that they are receiving the best diagnosis and treatment plan based on of their individual needs, ”said Ophir Tanz, CEO and Founder of Pearl.

“Our Second Opinion® technology allows dentists to do their jobs with more confidence, see more patients and provide a higher level of care as needed. All of these factors stimulate growth and better outcomes for dental patients. “

Second Opinion® detects a full range of pathologies, existing restorations and natural anatomy in dental x-rays. The system analyzes images upon capture, allowing dentists performing exams to review Second Opinion® detections in real time, as well as add their own detections and delete any AI findings they deem unnecessary .
