Saint-Bonaventure University will officially welcome the 2025 class to the Bonaventure family during the 2021 Welcome Days this week.
On Friday, August 27, first-year students will move into their residences before the 8:30 p.m. candlelight ceremony for students and parents on the steps of the Plassmann Hall. A neighborhood party will follow.
“The Class of 2025 got a sample of what Saint-Bonaventure has to offer them during our summer orientation programs – hearing what makes this community so great and why the current faculty, staff, students and the elders have taken up residence in this university. During Welcome Days, our incoming class will officially become Bonnies at the end of the Friday night candle light ceremony and see for herself why Bona’s is so special, ”said Dahron Wells, Assistant Director of the Student Success Center.
On Saturday August 28, new students will attend various presentations and activities to help them prepare for the transition to college life. Keynote speaker Linnita Hosten will give students an overview of what it means to be a freshman and how to navigate the experience. Students will learn to write a roadmap for a successful first year; identify valuable resources and opportunities on campus; and make a clear link between their experience, graduation and future career success.
Students will also have the chance to get to know each other during an evening of social and entertainment events, including a game show, hypnotist, movie and bonfire.
Students will attend workshops and programs on Sunday August 29 to learn more about student life on campus. Orientation for transfer students will also take place on Sunday. The day will conclude with the opening Mass at 5:00 p.m. in the William C. Foster ’62 Memorial Yard at Doyle Hall.
“The events that take place throughout the weekend are designed to introduce our freshmen to their new home, prepare them for the start of class and allow them to connect with their entire class. I hope all members of the SBU community will join me in welcoming the new members of the Bona family, ”said Wells.
The upper classes of the university will start arriving on Saturday. The fall semester courses start on Monday August 30.
